# APS-C

> A camera sensor format smaller than full frame, which crops the image by a factor of about 1.5–1.6.

Also known as: APS-C sensor, crop sensor. Category: Lighting and optics.

APS-C is a sensor format of roughly 23 x 15 mm, smaller than full frame. It crops the field of view by a factor of about 1.5 to 1.6, so a 50 mm lens frames like a 75 to 80 mm lens on full frame.

## How PhotoRobot uses it

PhotoRobot's camera resolution guide explains that APS-C sensors capture less of the scene with a given lens and require different settings and stronger lighting, and recommends full-frame cameras for product photography. Its Depth of Field Calculator supports Canon APS-C as well as full frame.
