# Centre of rotation

> The axis a turntable spins around; a product placed on it stays in the same spot in every frame.

Also known as: center of rotation, rotation axis. Category: Photography techniques.

The centre of rotation is the axis around which a turntable or rotating platform turns. A product placed exactly on it stays in the same position in every frame of a spin; an off-centre product appears to wobble or drift.

## How PhotoRobot uses it

PhotoRobot turntables mark the centre of rotation with [positioning lasers](https://www.photorobot.com/glossary/laser-positioning), and software [auto-centering](https://www.photorobot.com/glossary/auto-centering) corrects misplaced products afterwards. With CubiScan measurements, the robotic arm can raise the camera to the vertical centre of the object automatically.
