# Chroma key

> Removing everything of one specific colour from an image, such as a green screen or a coloured stand.

Also known as: chromakey, chroma keying, key colour. Category: Photography techniques.

Chroma keying removes all areas of one chosen colour from an image and makes them transparent or replaces them. It is best known from green screens; in product photography it removes stands, holders and supports painted in a colour that does not appear in the product.

## How PhotoRobot uses it

PhotoRobot Controls uses chroma key operations to remove mannequin poles, nylon ropes, clamps and holders, for example to create the [ghost mannequin effect](https://www.photorobot.com/glossary/ghost-mannequin-effect). The operations are saved in presets so they run automatically for similar items.
