# DMX

> A standard control protocol for lighting, used to set the intensity and colour of lights remotely.

Also known as: DMX512, DMX control. Category: Lighting and optics.

DMX (DMX512) is a standard digital protocol for controlling lighting equipment from one controller. Each light listens on its own address and receives values for intensity and, where supported, colour temperature or effects.

## How PhotoRobot uses it

PhotoRobot uses DMX to control continuous LED lights, so a preset can set lighting automatically for each product category. DMX control is integrated directly into PhotoRobot control units, which PhotoRobot states reduces failure points compared with USB converters on a PC; the PINK system also sets its LED intensity over DMX.
