# DPI (dots per inch)

> A print density value stored in image files; it does not change the pixel resolution of a digital image.

Also known as: DPI, PPI. Category: 360, 3D and output formats.

DPI (dots per inch) describes print density: how many image pixels are printed per inch. In a digital file it is only a metadata value; the actual resolution is the number of pixels, so changing DPI alone does not make an image sharper on screen.

## How PhotoRobot uses it

PhotoRobot Controls sets DPI to 72 by default on export, and its item export manual notes that adjusting DPI has no effect on image resolution, so the default is recommended in most cases.
