# DSLR

> A digital camera that uses a mirror and optical viewfinder, with interchangeable lenses.

Also known as: digital SLR, digital single-lens reflex. Category: Lighting and optics.

A DSLR (digital single-lens reflex) camera uses a mirror to send the image from the lens to an optical viewfinder; the mirror flips up during exposure. DSLRs have large sensors and interchangeable lenses and were the studio standard before mirrorless cameras.

## How PhotoRobot uses it

PhotoRobot supports a range of Canon DSLRs, but recommends mirrorless Canon cameras for the most seamless integration. PhotoRobot control units can pre-raise an SLR's mirror with one signal and expose with a second.
