# JPEG

> The most common lossy image format for photographs; small files, no transparency.

Also known as: JPG. Category: 360, 3D and output formats.

JPEG (JPG) is the most widely used image format for photographs. It uses lossy compression with an adjustable quality level, which keeps files small but discards some detail, and it does not support transparency.

## How PhotoRobot uses it

PhotoRobot hosting serves JPEG with configurable, real-time compression. In item export, JPG and WebP are the recommended formats; quality is set from 1 to 100, and a pure white 255-255-255 background can be exported as JPEG, while transparency requires PNG or WebP.
