# Motor driver

> Electronics that supply power to a robot's motors; it determines how fast and precisely each axis can move.

Also known as: motor drivers. Category: Hardware.

A motor driver is the power electronics between a control unit and a motor. It converts control signals into the currents that move the motor, so its power and precision determine the dynamics of each axis of a robot.

## How PhotoRobot uses it

PhotoRobot designs its motor drivers in-house. Apart from mobile devices, its machines use a 48 V motor supply, the highest safe voltage level, with nominal currents of 5 to 15 A per phase depending on the generation, to deliver as much power as possible to each robotically controlled axis.
