# Optical glass plate

> A turntable top made of optical glass that can be lit and photographed through, giving shadow-free images.

Also known as: glass turntable, glass plate. Category: Hardware.

An optical glass plate is a transparent turntable top made of hardened optical glass. Light can pass through it from below, so the product casts no shadow on the plate, and the camera can photograph the underside of the product through the glass.

## How PhotoRobot uses it

PhotoRobot uses optical glass plates on the [Centerless Table](https://www.photorobot.com/robots/centerless-table) (850 or 1300 mm), the [CASE 850](https://www.photorobot.com/robots/case-850), the C-Class turntables and [FRAME](https://www.photorobot.com/robots/frame). Together with a diffuse background they let the software separate the product from the background without clipping, and photographing through the glass supports [photogrammetry](https://www.photorobot.com/glossary/what-is-photogrammetry-in-product-imaging) 3D models.
