# Polarising filter

> A lens filter that cuts reflections and glare from non-metallic surfaces.

Also known as: polarizing filter, polariser, cross-polarisation, cross-polarization. Category: Lighting and optics.

A polarising filter on the lens blocks light polarised in one direction, reducing reflections and glare from non-metallic surfaces such as glass, plastic and varnish. In cross-polarisation, polarising film on the lights and a filter on the lens are combined to remove reflections almost completely.

## How PhotoRobot uses it

PhotoRobot's Object Capture tutorial suggests a polarisation filter, and if needed cross-polarisation, to reduce reflections that disturb photogrammetry, and PhotoRobot-ready camera kits are delivered including polarisation.
