# Product ingestion

> Receiving and registering products in the studio before photography: scanning, measuring, sorting.

Also known as: item intake, scan-in, receiving items. Category: E-commerce and workflow.

Product ingestion is the first stage of a studio workflow: products arrive, are identified (usually by barcode), registered against the shooting list, measured if needed and sorted for photography. Errors here propagate to every later stage.

## How PhotoRobot uses it

In PhotoRobot Controls, scanning an item marks it as Received with a timestamp; unknown barcodes can create new items automatically, missing barcodes can be generated and printed, and CubiScan adds weight and dimensions. Items are then sorted to shelves with their presets. At the end of the workflow, scan-out confirms the product has left the studio.
