# Retouching

> Manual correction of an image, such as removing dust, blemishes or unwanted elements.

Also known as: photo retouching, image retouching, retouch. Category: Photography techniques.

Retouching is manual editing that corrects or improves an image beyond standard adjustments: removing dust and scratches, cleaning up edges, fixing reflections or removing unwanted objects. It is time-consuming, so high-volume studios try to reduce it through good capture and automation.

## How PhotoRobot uses it

PhotoRobot Controls includes a brush and eraser for retouching single images or applying a change to all images, and a Denoise tool for removing dirt and dust. Item export can mark images for external retouching, PhotoRobot Account has an External Retoucher role, and PhotoRobot Studio offers optional outsourced retouching.
