# Strobe

> A studio flash that emits a very short, powerful burst of light, freezing motion.

Also known as: studio flash, strobe light, flash. Category: Lighting and optics.

A strobe is a studio flash unit that emits a very short, intense burst of light synchronised with the camera shutter. Its high output allows small apertures for deep depth of field, and its short flash duration freezes movement.

## How PhotoRobot uses it

PhotoRobot supports strobes from Broncolor (Siros S series), FOMEI (Digital Pro X series) and Profoto, controlled from PhotoRobot Controls including energy, cell sensors, modelling light and power. PhotoRobot recommends strobes for larger objects, where LED intensity is insufficient, and they make [Fast Spin](https://www.photorobot.com/glossary/fast-spin) possible by freezing the rotating product.
