# Vignette

> Darkening or lightening towards the edges of an image, either a lens fault or a deliberate effect.

Also known as: vignetting. Category: Lighting and optics.

A vignette is a gradual change in brightness towards the edges of an image. As a lens fault (vignetting) it darkens the corners; as an editing effect it draws the eye to the centre or evens out the background.

## How PhotoRobot uses it

PhotoRobot Controls has a Vignette function with a configurable gradient and shape for painting image backgrounds, which PhotoRobot notes is especially useful with the Turning Platform.
