# Zero-clearance transmission

> A drive without mechanical play between motor and plate, so the plate stops exactly where commanded.

Also known as: zero clearance, zero-backlash drive. Category: Hardware.

A zero-clearance (zero-backlash) transmission has no free play between the motor and the driven part. The plate therefore stops exactly at the commanded angle and does not move when stopped, which keeps consecutive frames of a spin aligned.

## How PhotoRobot uses it

PhotoRobot uses a precision drive with zero-clearance transmission on the [CUBE](https://www.photorobot.com/robots/cube) and the [Turning Platform](https://www.photorobot.com/robots/turning-platform), where it keeps positioning precise even at full load.
