Compatible Cameras with PhotoRobot _Controls

In PhotoRobot Controls, there is full support for the following lineup of Canon camera models. These models are fully compatible with the latest Canon EOS SDK (v13.x) and enable seamless integration with PhotoRobot systems.

Important: As of the release PhotoRobot Controls App 2.5.4, any camera can now be supported through third-party camera integration. However, for automated photography by robotic workstation, the latest DSLR and mirrorless Canon cameras are the most reliable and efficient.

While it is possible to use compatible handheld cameras over Wi-Fi or cable connection, doing so may create issues. There may be frequent Wi-Fi disconnections (primarily due to timeout), or complications with cable lengths and connections. For more information on connection and use of handheld cameras, see the PhotoRobot Getting Started User Manual.

If using an iPhone via the PhotoRobot Touch App, also note that none of the above issues with handheld cameras occur. The iPhone can function standalone for handheld photography using a setup of continuous lighting. If flash photography is necessary, use a recommended DSLR / mirrorless camera, or handheld camera.

Supported Canon Camera Models

For smooth operation, it is currently advisable to choose either digital SLRs (DSLRs) with interchangeable lenses or mirrorless cameras (CSCs / compact cameras with interchangeable lenses), which can be controlled using software drivers.

Note: the Canon EOS 850D model has the name Rebel T8i in the USA, or Kiss X10i in Asia.

PhotoRobot directly controls the parameter settings, shutter, image transfer to the computer, and subsequent editing for a wide range of Canon cameras:

{{compatible-table}}

Please consult your supplier for the appropriate camera and lens combination (excluding pre-configured Canon kits supplied as a complete set). Some combinations may not support all functions—for example, a motorized zoom added to a lens may not be compatible with every type of camera. Therefore, it is advisable to confirm the intended configuration in advance with a PhotoRobot specialist (or Canon). In extreme cases, testing in the PhotoRobot studio may be necessary.

Camera control via this special Wi-Fi protocol must be enabled in the camera using Canon’s tool application, which is available on the Canon Developer page.

These models offer high-quality imaging and the flexibility required for capturing intricate details.

Alternatively, it is possible to use an iPhone for handheld photography using the PhotoRobot Touch App. For instructions on using an iPhone with PhotoRobot, see the iPhone Touch App User Manual.

3rd Party Cameras

We also support third-party cameras under the following conditions:

  • The camera is fired using a cable trigger connected to the PhotoRobot Control Unit.
  • The transfer of photos from the camera is handled by third-party software installed on the PC.
  • The software transfers photos to a designated folder that is monitored by PhotoRobot Controls.

Please note: 3rd party cameras are supported from PhotoRobot Controls version 2.5.4

Please contact us for specific information about your camera and how it can be integrated into PhotoRobot systems.

Important Notes

1. Canon Camera Support:

The Canon camera lineup listed above is supported only from PhotoRobot Controls 2.13.0 onward.

2. End of Support for Nikon Cameras:

Native support for Nikon cameras has reached end of life and is no longer available in PhotoRobot Controls. Third-party integration, as described above, is required to use Nikon or other non-Canon cameras.

3. Regional Naming Differences:

Some Canon camera models may have regional name variations. For example:

  • EOS 850D is also known as EOS Rebel T8i in the USA and EOS Kiss X10i in Asia.
